Azzopardi Deborah
Biography :
What is it that gives Deborah Azzopardi’s paintings such universal appeal? Certainly one is initially drawn in by her vibrant pallet of heightened colours, which are predominantly primary and contained by outlines that reference her earlier work for The Walt Disney Company.

While her colours serve as the initial bait to gain the viewer’s attention, it is her subject matter that hooks you and keeps you captivated. In one, lipstick is seductively applied, while elsewhere toned bodies remove items of clothing and long female legs dangle from a red convertible. These works are provocatively flirtatious, highlighted by playful titles such as Beach Party and Happy Birthday.

The often ambiguous compositions allow for individual interpretation, letting the viewer read as much or as little as they like into each painting. Their voyeuristic nature is contradicted by their cartoon-like execution, vivid colours and humorous titles. The result being PG porn that is driven by Azzopardi’s desire to amuse rather than alarm.

Barba Lluís
Biography :
Born in Spain and educated at the Escola Massana Centre d’Art-UAB, Barba has exhibited his work in the United States, Europe, Latin America and Canada. His work is held in major public collections, such as the Artothèque d’Art Anekdota in Paris, Foundation, Daniela Chappard of Caracas, Foundation Lluís Carulla, L’Espluga de Francolí, Tarragona, Instituto Cervantes in Tangier, Morocco, Museo Jacobo Borges Caracas, Museo Marugame Hirai Japan, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam La Habana, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Requena Valencia, Museo Internacional Cairo, Egypt and Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona.

Lluís Barba reworks iconic artworks to comment on contemporary society, introducing modern characters into Hyeronimus Bosch’s or Pieter Brueghel’s medieval scenes. His work leverages the language of artistic symbolism to critique both modern society and the art world, utilising society darlings and art world players such as Kate Moss, Brad Pitt and Jay Jopling. Barba thereby expresses his debt to History of Art while establishing distance through a strongly ironic stance.

Boël Delphine
Biography :
Delphine Boël is known for creating multi-media artworks overflowing with color, texture and humor. From painting to neon sculptures and brass design pieces her sculptures are vibrant and whimsical. Even though she has lived the majority of her life in London, her spirit remains absolutely and typically Belgian: "la joie de vivre" - not taking oneself too seriously; and, individualistic. Delphine herself describes her work as "an allergic reaction to the power of gossip, rumors, and blabla small talk in general." This message is firmly embodied in her works ranging from a shiny metal-sculpted word blabla, to paintings that scream out "this system is corrupt be happy." Her explicit use of words and language makes the message very straightforward, while her use of color and composition leaves space for whimsy and irony.

"My work is an allergic reaction to the power of gossip, rumors, and blabla small talk in general. "Shut Up & Listen blabla – White, Black & Red" is a message encouraging the viewer to stop indulging in blabla talk and instead listen to the beauty of silence."

If you google ‘Delphine Boël’, you will find that many of the hits have less to do with art than her origins: she is reputed to be the illegitimate daughter of King Albert II of Belgium. Issues of identity, luxury, reputation, royalty and Belgian culture often clearly inspire Boël’s art.

ABSOLUT DELPHINE (created for the Venice Biennale in 2003) is a colorful sculpture of steel, papier-mâché, plaster, and acrylic and ultraviolet paints. She put the ABSOLUT Vodka bottle on its own throne. "Such a famous bottle, it should have its own thrown." says Boël.

Boël’s ABSOLUT DELPHINE sculpture is one of 70 ABSOLUT artworks chosen for display in the new SPRITMUSEUM in Stockholm (exhibition runs summer 2012 – January 2013). The exposition is a retrospective of ABSOLUT artworks created between 1986-2004 and includes iconic ABSOLUT pieces by Andy Warhol, Keith Hering, Damien Hi

David Eason Ewan
Biography :
Ewan David Eason investigates the interplay of contrasts - the notions that one force drives the other. Death/life, loose/rigid, serious/funny, hard/soft, light/dark are familiar themes within his work.

In the Mappa Mundi Series, Ewan explores the sacred spaces between the roads in diverse metropolitan cities. By removing the street names and colouring the buildings in golf, he aims to draw on the egalitarianism of the city and the sacredness therein.

The title was inspired by the medieval Mappa Mundi- a genral term used to describe maps of the world and taken from the Latin words Mappa (cloth or chart) and Mundi (of the worlds). The majority of the maps were circular- in reference to Biblical verses such as Isaiah 40:22:

"He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth..."

The original maps were all centred on places of significance and subsequently many 'landed gentry' commissioned maps centred on their 'places of significance' such as their Estates or Jerusalem. In a similar way, Ewan's Mappa Mundi Series are centred of places of significance to him.

Ghost of a Dream
Biography :
Ghost of a Dream is the collaborative project of Lauren Was ( born 1977 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA) and Adam Eckstrom (born 1974 in Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA). Ghost of a Dream works with sculpture and installation to embody the essence of opulence, through construction of materials that end up in the trash. They mine popular culture for detritus that people use to attain their goals. Whether it is a romance novel someone reads to transport them into a dream reality, a religious tract promising the glory of eternal life, or a lottery ticket that gives the possibility of a future full of decadence - Ghost of a Dream use these remnants to re-create dreams. Eckstrom received an MFA Painting (Honors) 2005, and Was an MFA Sculpture (Honors) 2004, from Rhode Island School of Design. Ghost of a Dream have exhibited internationally, including an IAAB residency in Basel, Special Project at VOLTA 5 and as joint-winners of The Young Masters Art Prize, sponsored by AXA UK, London 2009. 2010 exhibitions include, The Courtauld Institute of Art, Somerset House London, VOLTA NY and a retrospective at The Freedman Gallery, Albright College, Pennsylvania, a residency at Vierter Stock Projektraum Berlin and a solo exhibition entitled Price of Happiness, Beijing, China. Messenger Boyarde
Biography :
Boyarde Messenger was born in London, in 1980. She studied a BTEC Foundation in Art at Wimbledon school of Art in 2000, then gained her BA Hons BA Certificate in Photography from Bournemouth Arts Institute in 2003. She is described as an Environmental Portraitist, where narrative comes first and the subject and viewer join forces in the product.

Influenced forever by a trip to Belize, Central America in January 2007, Boyarde discovered a new world of inspiration. The un-done landscape and fiercely proud and free spiritedness of the people compelled her to return time and time again to the village she now calls `home` for six months of the year.

Through her newfound friendships, love, happiness, drama, heartbreak, death, trauma and tragedy, her work has taken a new direction. The bursting sunshine, crazy coloured houses and intricately mixed race people juxtaposed with the untold stories of dark nights have resulted in the most exciting collection of photographs to date.

In particular it is through her Night Prowls, pictures taken after hours, transforming everyday scenery and the unspectacular, into an open film still, subsumed in cinematic style, to reveal void spaces energized by their human interaction. Some places have become habitual to Messenger, safe places she visits everyday, to be re-examined through the quietness of night, and others, venture into the unknown, uninvited and more forbidding territories where a more somber shadow and dark reality already hangs. Although inspired by photographers such as Jeff Wall and Gregory Crewdson, major influence comes from her painting background, which can be seen through Edward Hopper and Caravaggio and his fascination for Chiaroscuro, light and dark. Painterly in style yet photographic in composition, these compelling, real-life landscapes give a unique insight into a parallel, familiar yet so different and exotic world that messenger has found and nurtured.

Reis Klari
Biography :
Klari Reis’ paintings reflect her focus on the complex internal workings of our bodies. The artist interprets magnified, electron microscope images of biological forms in vivid colours. Her work is an expression of an ongoing curiosity about the deeper forces at the core of our physical selves. The works are her personal response to biological technology and the mysteries of life beneath the skin.

The cellular forms represent the hopeful but often controversial implications of bioengineering. The scientific and artistic perspectives are bridged to promote a combined vision. The paintings bear the titles of modern prescription drugs, at once optimistic with their intense colour, yet often unpredictable and intrusive.

The procedure and materials necessary to execute the paintings are consistent with the artist’s intent to integrate science and art. Many works are produced on aluminium panels, suggesting a clinical, yet high-tech backdrop. Epoxy polymer is a toxic material upon application. Its use requires the artist to wear a fume mask, eye protection, boots, barrier creams (on any potentially exposed skin), latex gloves and disposable clothing. Once dried, the epoxy polymer is non-toxic and virtually impenetrable. Each painting is moulded and set in layers. At a certain point, the picture paints itself and the artist is no longer in control.

| painting with technology: about the medium |

The epoxy polymer is a synthetic plastic, derived from crude oil. Klari mixes each colour with acrylic binders and pigments before application. The effect is significant to the artist’s work, evoking artificiality because of its smooth sheen and brilliant colour. The finish is touchable, durable, and reflective. When observing a painting, it is possible for the viewer to be drawn in by his or her own reflection.

Saint Gregoire Nicolas
Biography :
Driven with the common quest for harmony of line and colour, Nicolas Saint- Grégoire whom is mentored by Pierre Bergé president of the Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent Foundation, started his research in 2008 - 09 where he was given exclusive access to the Yves Saint Laurent archives. The resultant work entitled Mondrian Dress 1, 2008 which was inspired by the 1965 Day Dress created by Saint Laurent in homage to artist Piet Mondrian. The Lightbox was presented by The Cynthia Corbett Gallery in Paris, London, Miami, New York, Chicago, Basel and Milan. The success of this work was confirmed by Mondrian Dress 2, 2009 inspired by the same collection which was reproduced by key French magazines and newspapers such as Le Monde, Beaux Arts and Belles Demeures.

Two years on, Nicolas Saint Gregoire has developed this concept further and has created a series of light sculptures exclusively inspired by Yves Saint Laurent dresses, which in turn were inspired by famous Art works. In order to represent the dresses faithfully, Nicolas Saint Gregoire designed his works, sketching directly from the original pieces in the archive – using the same sketching tradition, Yves Saint Laurent would have done many decades before.

The foreign press has equally echoed the work of Nicolas Saint-Grégoire, Mondrian Dress #2 was published in Country Life and press for October 2011 includes Easy Jet Magazine, Lawfully Chic – Mishcon de Reya’s Cultural Blog and Net a porter whom will be covering the appearance of work at Slick Paris in October presented by The Cynthia Corbett Gallery.

Beyond a tribute to the artist Yves Saint-Laurent, Nicholas' work has also inscribed itself into a tradition, which has combined the works of Saint-Laurent and those of other masters such as Pablo Picasso, Tom Wesselmann, Georges Braque, Henri Matisse, and Andy Warhol. What could be more natural than for Yves Saint-Laurent to continue to inspire the work of designers and artists? He whose genius c

Santini Derrick
Biography :
Derrick Santini’s creative view is very much rooted in ancient times. His series of lenticular photographs have a clear Old Masters reference, combined with a modern technique that literally animates the beautiful ancient myth of Leda and the Swan. Santini’s intention is very much to modernise the fable, to reinvigorate and shift the power to the female. Originally from North Yorkshire, Santini discovered his love for photography in his early teens. He subsequently gained a BA Hons in Photography and Communication at the London College of Communication. Santini soon evolved to become an accomplished reportage photographer. He captured subjects and situations on to which he could project his own intellectual and aesthetic thoughts and fantasies. Santini’s work propelled him into portraiture, music, photography, fashion and advertising. He works across genres, but all based on a style defined by his first love – reportage

Stanislav Andréa
Biography :
By considering the breakdown of the utopian imaginary in this manner Stanislav’s work precisely locates and interrogates the limits of human rationality. With this in mind the work of Andréa Stanislav revels, almost in a mood of resistance, in that most traditional of artistic dimensions: beauty. Limited as we are, fragile as bodies may be, her careful practice adorns the mundane with decoration, positioning it in works of considerable scale, letting them spin and glitter, millions of pristine points, fragments of faces and hopeful eyes.

Andréa Stanislav was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1968. She lives and works in Minneapolis and New York City. Andréa received a MFA from Alfred University in 1997 and a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1990. She is a contemporary artist whose interdisciplinary practice includes: sculpture, video, installation and public projects and interventions. Her work interrogates global capital and popular culture via the unexpected -- with her multimedia installations and monumental sculpture.
